Take One Snack is traditional short bread-like cookies made with organically grown grains; millet, sorghum, all-purpose flour, plus sesame seeds, cardamom and cloves…dressed in icing sugar.
The history of this snack dates to 1070 BC in Napata, Kerma…. there was the kingdom of Kush. An ancient kingdom in Nubia – where shul why-why or (Take One), snack was not only loved, but also enjoyed. Growing up in a Nubian household, I learnt that every family had a unique recipe for making shul why-why. The recipe is top secret. It’s passed down from one generation to the next. This snack is mainly prepared during holidays or major celebrations or feast. I am happy to share this piece of family secret with you.
